New Technique Fast-Tracks Better Ionic Liquids For Biomass Pre-Treatments
Berkeley CA (SPX) Jul 15, 2009Understanding how ionic liquids dissolve lignocellulose will help scientists find new and better ways of producing advanced fuels from biomass. They've been dubbed "grassoline" - second generation biofuels made from inedible plant material, including fast-growing weeds, agricultural waste, sawdust, etc. - and numerous scientific studies have shown them to be prime candidates for replacing ... more GE Energy inaugurates cogeneration plant
Kingsville, Ontario (UPI) Jul 13, 2009 A cogeneration plant for a commercial greenhouse opened Friday in Ontario, the first of its kind in North America. Designed by GE Energy, the greenhouse facility is powered by four of GE Energy's Jenbacher gas engines, using a carbon dioxide fertilization technology developed by Jenbacher. The plant is designed to generate more reliable on-site power and heat while reducing ... more Agreement Signed For Large Scale Microalgae Process Optimization
Ashkelon, Israel (SPX) Jul 10, 2009Seambiotic has announced that its US subsidiary, Seambiotic USA, has entered into an agreement with NASA Glenn Research Center to develop an on-going collaborative R and D program for optimization of open-pond microalgae growth processes. "Under a Space Act Agreement, NASA is partnering with Seambiotic USA to model growth processes for microalgae for use as aviation biofuel ... more VIASPACE Discusses Giant King Grass At Biofuels Conference
